Living in a 1,100 sqft condo, I wanted to create a space that truly felt like home. As someone who enjoys expressing their creativity through interior design and decor, I knew I needed to elevate the look of my living room. The plain wall seemed to be missing something, and I wanted to make it a focal point that would leave a lasting impression on guests.

That's when I decided to add moldings to my wall, aiming to create a beautiful Parisian-style ambiance within my home. Over the years, my taste in home styles has evolved, and it's completely normal for me to change things up and try different designs. But this time, I found something that truly resonated with me and represented who I am.

I fell in love with the traditional Parisian vibe, infused with a hint of mid-century style. It's amazing how adding a touch of moulding can completely transform a space and bring out its unique personality. I wanted to spice up my place and make it a reflection of my own style and personality.

If you're looking to add a touch of elegance and personality to your home, don't be afraid to experiment and try something new. Let your creativity shine through and embrace different styles that resonate with you. After all, your home is a reflection of who you are, so why not make it a space that truly feels like you?

Creating stunning mouldings on your rental walls is a simple and affordable DIY project that can instantly elevate the look of your space. With just a few items and a little bit of creativity, you can achieve a stylish and personalized touch.

Materials:

  1. Wood Moldings

  2. Miter Shear or Miter Saw

  3. Scotch-Mount Indoor Double-sided Mounting Tape

  4. Pencil

  5. Sandpaper

  6. Paint of your choice

Here are the step-by-step instructions to help you get started:

  1. Measure Your Wall: To ensure a well-planned installation, I recommend drawing a layout plan that includes all the molding sizes you need to create. Start by measuring the length of your wall and deciding on the placement of your moldings. Keep in mind that a distance of 2-5 inches from the end of the wall works well for creating a visually pleasing layout. Determine the spacing between each moulding, ensuring a balanced and symmetrical look.

  2. Gather Your Materials: Head to your local Home Depot or similar store to purchase the necessary items. You'll need wood moldings, which are available in a variety of designs and sizes. Additionally, you'll require a miter shear (available on Amazon) or a miter saw, Scotch-Mount Indoor Double-Sided Mounting Tape Mega Roll, a pencil, sandpaper, and paint of your choice.

  3. Measure and Cut the Moldings: Measure the length of each side of the box you want to create on the wall. It's important to measure the outside dimensions of the moulding to ensure a precise fit. Use your miter shear or miter saw to cut the moldings according to your measurements.

  4. Smooth the Edges: After cutting the moldings, use sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges or imperfections. This step will help ensure a seamless and professional finish.

  5. Attach the Mounting Tape: Apply Scotch-Mount Indoor Double-Sided Mounting Tape to the back of each moulding. This tape is ideal for rental spaces as it provides a strong hold without damaging the walls. Make sure to apply the tape evenly and firmly.

  6. Mark the Placement: Use a pencil to mark the desired location for each moulding on the wall. Some people prefer using painter's tape as a guide, but marking with a pencil has proven to be an effective method for me. Remember, perfection may not be possible, but the end result will still look impressive.

7. Install the Moldings: Carefully align each moulding with the marked spots on the wall and firmly press them in place. Start from one end and work your way towards the other, ensuring that each moulding is level and evenly spaced. Take your time during this step to achieve the best results.

8. Paint the Moldings: After installing the mouldings on the wall, you have the option to paint them before or after installation. Painting before installation allows for easier and more precise painting, while painting after installation lets you see how the color interacts with the space. Choose your preferred method and use a paint color that complements your interior design.

By following these simple steps, you can effortlessly transform your rental walls with beautiful moldings. The best part is that this DIY project is easily reversible, making it ideal for temporary living spaces.

Now, as I walk into my living room, I'm greeted by the stunning mouldings that have become the centerpiece of the space. It's incredible how a simple DIY project can make such a significant impact. Every time I have guests over, they can't help but notice the attention to detail and the inviting atmosphere that the moldings create.
